Vision screening for older drivers not tied to lower collision risk

It might stand to reason that as drivers get older and start to have various forms of visual dysfunction that it could affect their driving ability. It’s a common conversation among younger family members that their older family members have their vision screened for their safety on the road. A new study, however, suggests that vision screening might not have the impact that these well-meaning younger family members might think.

Study proposes using this fruit as a training tool

Research published in the British Journal of Ophthalmology suggests that grapes could be used as a training model. Zhang et al. compared the use of grapes, as a model for learning basic microsurgical skills, to the use of a virtual reality modulator.

Photoreceptor cells from donors revived, expanding research capabilities for human vision

Investigators from the John A. Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah, with collaboration from Scripps Research, have revived photoreceptor cells from organ donor eyes and restored communication between them. The research, according to a press release from the Moran Eye Center, “[stands] to transform brain and vision research.”
