EyeSustain website introduced and launched at ASCRS Annual Meeting

A new website to promote more sustainable ophthalmic care was launched and introduced at the 2022 ASCRS Annual Meeting. EyeSustain is a global coalition of ophthalmologists and societies seeking to collaborate on making ophthalmic care and surgery more economically and environmentally sustainable.

Multisociety OICS Task Force issues recommendations on reducing topical drug waste in ophthalmic surgery

The Ophthalmic Instrument Cleaning & Sterilization Task Force is comprised of representatives from the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Glaucoma Society, and the Outpatient Ophthalmic Surgery Society, and previously developed ophthalmology-specific guidelines for surgical instrument processing and sterilization. Now, it’s addressing reducing topical drug waste in ophthalmic surgery.

ASCRS Lindstrom Symposium covers topics in cataract, refractive, cornea, glaucoma, and industry relations

This year, the Richard L. Lindstrom, MD, Lecture was given at the Annual Meeting by Warren Hill, MD, on the topic of “Accuracy for IOL power selection … Are we there yet?” Other presentations in the session focused on refractive, cornea, glaucoma, and industry relations topics.

ASCRS Government Relations Committee session: “Same-Day Bilateral Cataract Surgery Alternative Payment Model (APM): Good for Patients, Good for You”

ASCRS has developed a draft alternative payment model (APM) for same-day, bilateral cataract surgery. The ASCRS Government Relations Committee session featured a review of the model, an overview of the development of APMs, and presentations on the benefits of same-day, bilateral cataract surgery and new technology as it relates to IOL power issues with same-day, bilateral cataract surgery.
