The Eyecelerator meeting is back ahead of the 2023 AAO Annual Meeting on November 2 in San Francisco, California. The collaboration between ASCRS and AAO will give attendees a full-day program highlighting innovation in ophthalmology.
EyeWorld spoke to Elizabeth Yeu, MD, who stepped into her role as ASCRS president at the 2023 Annual Meeting, about her involvement with ASCRS and what she’s looking forward to in leading the Society for the next year.
The ASCRS Summer Meeting is back in Nashville, Tennessee, from August 11–13. Experienced surgeons and those new to practice can all benefit from the program and skills transfer lab offerings. Program chairs for the meeting are Daniel Chang, MD, Sumitra Khandelwal, MD, Douglas Koch, MD, and Zaina Al-Mohtaseb, MD.

The annual Government Relations symposium at the 2023 ASCRS Annual Meeting featured political analyst and journalist Mark McKinnon, who shared his thoughts about how to be effective in the current world of public policy and politics.
The purpose of “TOPGUN: Phaco Mavericks,” said David Chang, MD, is to have the world’s top phaco instructors provide their best pearls in cataract surgery. The symposium, which took place at the 2023 ASCRS Annual Meeting, included two teams—ASCRS members and an international team with members from ESCRS, APACRS, and LASCRS.
EyeWorld had a conversation with Eric Rosenberg, DO, and John Kitchens, MD, about the Digital Ophthalmic Society (DOS), which they co-founded and launched in April 2022. The discussion covered what DOS is and digital innovation in ophthalmology.

Digital Day, sponsored by the Digital Ophthalmic Society (DOS) and taking place in conjunction with ASCRS Subspecialty Day today, is a full-day, non-CME program centered around novel, technology-driven solutions with functional integration that are going to push ophthalmology forward.

Eric Donnenfeld, MD, will give the 2023 Binkhorst Lecture, titled “The Road to Innovation: What a Long Strange Trip It’s Been.” One main point Dr. Donnenfeld wants to emphasize is that the road to innovation is classically defined as standing on the shoulders of giants, but there are people who aren’t necessarily giants who play a significant role in innovation.
