In August, the Prescribing Information for VUITY (pilocarpine) was updated following a voluntary submission by Allergan to the FDA. This ASCRS Task Force was convened to develop an understanding of the data and a preliminary consensus on appropriate counseling of patients regarding risks associated with the use of Vuity.
The FDA issued draft guidance for LASIK patient labeling recommendations in July 2022 that ASCRS and refractive surgeons consider “highly biased and misleading to potential patients.” During the FDA’s comment period, ASCRS submitted these and more specific comments. Last week, the New York Times, CBS, local news outlets, and trade publications picked up the story, but ophthalmologists say most coverage does not convey the whole story.
