While cataract surgery continually experiences advancement in technologies, techniques, implants, and calculations, one area that seems seldom discussed in comparison is incisions. A study that was published in late 2021 in JAMA Ophthalmology, however, took a look at the effect of incision shape on a cataract surgery complication in the setting of dense cataracts.
David Chang, MD, and Kendall Donaldson, MD, MS, chaired the in-person ASCRS 20/Happy in 2021 program in New Orleans, Louisiana, an expansion of the ASCRS Master Class in Refractive Cataract Surgery. The CME program included presentations on a variety of refractive topics.

2021 has been a time of unprecedented challenge for the ASCRS Foundation. The number of needy patients applying through the Operation Sight web portal has exploded.
