First generic cyclosporine for dry eye

Restasis (cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion) was developed by Allergan and approved by the U.S. FDA in 2003. Now, after nearly 2 decades since its approval as a brand name drug indicated for symptoms of dry eye, a generic version of Restasis has been approved. It was a “long time coming,” according to Henry Perry, MD.

CME program to highlight ‘Diversity, Equity and Inclusion’

ASCRS Film Festival celebrates 40th anniversary with return of in-person event

The ASCRS Film Festival is back after happening virtually the last 2 years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Not only will the 2022 ASCRS Annual Meeting see the return of an in-person event, but it will also be a celebration of the 40th year of the festival. Shachar Tauber, MD, chairman of the event, talked about year’s Film Festival and his excitement about being involved.

What you need to know about “dead bag syndrome”

Dead bag syndrome, first described by Samuel Masket, MD, is the subject of a recent paper published in the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery (JCRS). The study’s corresponding author, Liliana Werner, MD, PhD, described the paper as the first formal peer-reviewed study on dead bag syndrome. It examined the clinical and histopathological findings of 10 suspected cases.
