In his introduction to the Spring issue, EyeWorld Chief Medical Editor Sumit “Sam” Garg, MD, discussed the 50th anniversary of the Society and highlighted some key events happening at the 2024 ASCRS Annual Meeting.
50 Years of ASCRS
ASCRS Executive Director Steve Speares reflected on the last 50 years of the Society and of history in general.
Mitchell Weikert, MD, will deliver this year’s Cornelius D. Binkhorst, MD, Medal Lecture at the ASCRS Annual Meeting. The lecture will be titled “IOL Calculations in Atypical Eyes: Exploration and Explication.”
David F. Chang, MD, will deliver the Charles D. Kelman, MD, Innovator’s Lecture during the ASCRS Annual Meeting. Dr. Chang’s lecture will introduce the concept of “frugal innovation,” which involves coming up with ways to deliver quality care either less expensively or by using fewer resources.
Renato Ambrósio Jr., MD, PhD, will present the 2024 Richard L. Lindstrom, MD, Medal Lecture at the ASCRS Annual Meeting. Dr. Ambrósio’s lecture will highlight the positive influence of refractive surgery on the developments related to diagnostics and management of corneal ectatic diseases.
The Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute residents reviewed “Comparison of cataract surgery outcomes in English proficient and limited English proficiency patients” from the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery.
The Emory Eye Center residents reviewed “Choice of intraocular lens calculation formula for cataract patients with prior pars plana vitrectomy” from the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery.
The ASCRS Foundation thanked its partners and supporters for the accomplishments from the past year.
