The ASCRS Foundation Board announced its selection of Aravind Haripriya, MD, and Rengaraj Venkatesh, MD, for the 2026 Chang-Crandall Humanitarian Award. The $100,000 award is donated to the awardee’s non-profit organization of choice. Drs. Haripriya and Venkatesh have earmarked the financial prize for the Aravind Eye Care System.

The ASCRS Foundation offers several unique award and grant opportunities. Submission periods for the Chang-Crandall Humanitarian Award, the Young Eye Surgeons (YES) International Service Grant, and the Resident Excellence Awards are open now, with submission periods for Operation Sight Grants and the Volunteer of the Year Award opening at a later time.

The ASCRS Foundation Board proudly announced its selection of Elena Barraquer, MD, for the 2025 Chang-Crandall Humanitarian Award. For many years, Dr. Barraquer has led the Elena Barraquer Foundation, a nonprofit organization that fights avoidable blindness due to cataract in developing countries.
The ASCRS Foundation is honoring Foundation Board member Michael Colvard, MD, by posthumously naming him co-recipient of the 2023 Chang-Crandall Humanitarian Award, along with Helena Ndume, MD, his long-time partner with SEE International in Namibia. Dr. Colvard, a beloved ophthalmologist, humanitarian, and educator, passed away in September 2024.
