Alexandria’s Original Ghost & Graveyard Tour
Those looking for something unique may want to visit Alexandria, Virginia, and take one of the ghost and graveyard tours led by Alexandria Colonial Tours. An 18th century costumed guide leads visitors by lantern around Alexandria’s Old Town and tells stories. Public tours are $15 for adults.
Cherry Blossom Tours
Those lucky enough to be in the area when the famous cherry blossoms are in full bloom may want to take advantage of a specific tour. Many companies offer bus tours, Segway tours, and more to view the cherry blossoms. The cherry blossoms are also in full view when walking near many of the monuments.
Mount Vernon
Mount Vernon, George Washington’s home, is located just outside of Washington, D.C., on the Potomac River. Admission to the home and grounds is $26 for adults. Mount Vernon is open year round. Visitors can tour the mansion, gardens, and other historic sites on the property.
Potomac River Cruise
Various tour companies offer tours by boat on the Potomac River. From the river, visitors can view some of the sights around the area. Many of the monuments can be viewed by boat, or visitors may choose a cruise near Alexandria or Mount Vernon. A variety of tour lengths are available, and prices vary. Many offer the option of booking a private tour.

The Viator tour company offers a variety of tours around Washington, D.C., giving visitors the option to tour by Segway, bus, boat, trolley, and more. Popular sites include the memorials, Mount Vernon, Alexandria, and Capitol Hill.
