ASCRS Foundation: ways to get involved at the ASCRS Annual Meeting

ASCRS News: ASCRS Foundation Update
April 2023

by Megan Odell
ASCRS Foundation Associate Director

The ASCRS Foundation is excited to reunite with its supporters at the ASCRS Annual Meeting. Every donor, volunteer, and champion is vital to the domestic and international work in treating preventable cataract blindness and changing lives.

ASCRS Foundation booth

ASCRS Foundation leadership, partners, supporters, and volunteers will be recognized at the Foundation booth in the Sails Pavilion and at Party for a Purpose. All registered Operation Sight volunteer surgeons can stop by the Foundation booth for an exclusive ASCRS Foundation scrub cap. Operation Sight is the ASCRS Foundationโ€™s domestic charitable cataract program. Surgeons are encouraged to tag the ASCRS Foundation on social media with their cap on when theyโ€™re scrubbing up.

All attendees are invited to stop by and meet the ASCRS Foundation team and learn how their practice can join the mission of restoring sight to the underserved in their community.

2023 ASCRS Foundation Volunteer of the Year Award

Operation Sight is fueled by a nationwide network of more than 750 physician volunteers who are dedicated to helping those in need in their own communities. The 2023 Operation Sight Volunteer of the Year winner will be announced and recognized during Party for a Purpose.

2023 ASCRS Foundation Chang-Crandall Humanitarian Award

The ASCRS Foundation is proud to recognize Helena Ndume, MD, as the 2023 recipient of the ASCRS Foundation Chang-Crandall Humanitarian Award (see page 44 for details). An exclusive interview with Dr. Ndume and award presentation will take place on the Main Stage on May 5 at 4:15 p.m. The Chang-Crandall Humanitarian Award is generously endowed by David and Victoria Chang to honor and recognize unseen superstars of humanitarian eyecare around the globe. The Foundation renamed its highest honor in 2020 in recognition of the exemplary life and commitment to charitable service of Alan Crandall, MD.

ASCRS ASOA Party for a Purpose

Attendees are encouraged to attend the social event of the ASCRS Annual Meeting on May 5 at NOVA SD from 8:00 p.m. to midnight. All attendees and their guests are invited to socialize with colleagues, industry leaders, and exhibiting partners while enjoying live entertainment and dancing the night away. They can also take a spin in the 360 photo booth and check out the rooftop lounge for incredible city views. All proceeds benefit the ASCRS Foundationโ€™s humanitarian eyecare and physician education programs.

Donate and unlock the Alcon match

Those interested in donating can do so online at ascrs.org/annual -meeting/plan-your-trip/party-for-a-purpose, or at the ASCRS Annual Meeting by scanning the QR code posted throughout the Convention Center or by visiting the Alcon booth in the Exhibit Hall. Alcon will match all donations dollar for dollar up to $35,000. Additionally, for every $25 donation to the ASCRS Foundation, donors will be entered to win one of three grand prizes.
