MIGS has continued to expand in its application for a wide variety of patients with varying degrees of glaucoma. Several physicians discussed where various MIGS procedures fit into interventional glaucoma, including applications for standalone MIGS and how it continues to play a role in conjunction with cataract surgery.
Many MIGS procedures are proving useful and accessible not just to the glaucoma specialist but to comprehensive ophthalmologists as well. Two ophthalmologists discussed who should be performing glaucoma surgery, as well as ways to learn and stay fresh with some of these techniques.

Recent changes to training have seen the addition of a requirement for trainees to perform five MIGS procedures as the primary surgeon. Requirements for tube shunts and trabeculectomy remain in place, but those in training can be the surgeon or assistant on five procedures. Several surgeons weighed in on these changes.

Glaucoma surgeons recently faced a potentially disastrous reimbursement situation when five Medicare Administrative Contractors proposed and finalized limiting coverage of several MIGS procedures. Because of extensive advocacy efforts, it was announced that there would be no change in the coverage at this time.
