ASCRS Annual Meeting Program Chair Thomas Samuelson, MD, spoke to EyeWorld about the upcoming Annual Meeting and what he’s looking forward to in Los Angeles, California.
Chief Medical Editor Sumit “Sam” Garg, MD, shared some of the topics covered in the issue, while also reminding readers of two important actions to take: donating to the ASCRS Foundation and registering for the ASCRS Annual Meeting.
Vance Thompson, MD, became ASCRS President during the 2024 Annual Meeting and said he is very much looking forward to the role. “Over the years, ASCRS has played such a large part in my education and networking with fellow ophthalmologists and industry and my interest in research and development,” he said.
David F. Chang, MD, gave the Charles D. Kelman, MD, Innovator’s Lecture at the 2024 ASCRS Annual Meeting on “frugal innovation,” highlighting this as “the key to tackling our greatest challenges in cataract surgery.”
Renato Ambrósio Jr., MD, PhD, presented the Richard L. Lindstrom, MD, Lecture at the 2024 ASCRS Annual Meeting, calling it “one of the highlights of my career.” His lecture focused on refractive surgery, specifically highlighting the concept of going “beyond.”
“Wishful thinking spurs innovation, changes in clinical and surgical practice, and charitable initiatives, among other things,” said Sumit “Sam” Garg, MD, in his introduction to the issue. He previewed some of the articles and shared thoughts on the recent ASCRS Annual Meeting.
