Study finds diabetic donor tissue effective in corneal transplant surgeries

A pair of recent studies from the Diabetes Endothelial Keratoplasty Study Group published in JAMA Ophthalmology found that diabetes status did not affect success of DMEK outcomes overall, nor did it result in greater endothelial cell loss when compared to tissue from a donor without diabetes.

Research highlight: pickleball-related ocular injuries on the rise

Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport among U.S. adults, but this increase in activity has resulted in a rise in pickleball-associated ocular injuries. According to a study published in JAMA Ophthalmology, ocular injuries related to the sport increased by about 405 injuries per year between 2021 and 2024.
