The ASCRS Foundation announced Geoff Tabin, MD, and Sanduk Ruit, MD, as the 2021 Chang-Crandall Humanitarian Award winners. Endowed by a generous gift from David and Victoria Chang, the ASCRS Foundation Chang-Crandall Humanitarian Award recognizes outstanding humanitarian work with a focus on cataract blindness and disability.

ASCRS announced that the 2021 Annual Meeting will be held July 23–27 in Las Vegas, Nevada, moving from the previous location of San Francisco, California. The move to Las Vegas allows ASCRS to have its first meeting in 800+ days in as safe a meeting venue as can be reasonably organized.

In December 2020, the FDA authorized two COVID-19 vaccines for emergency use: the first developed by Pfizer-BioNTech and the second by Moderna. Both are mRNA vaccines, and both require two doses spaced several weeks apart. As of February 22, more than 75.2 million doses had been delivered, more than 64.1 million of which had been administered.
ASCRS began its Grand Rounds in October 2020 as a monthly CME opportunity for members. The Grand Rounds are hosted in partnership with major academic institutions and feature two challenging cases with panel discussions.
