X-Rounds ‘superheroes’ discuss the latest in refractive cataract surgery
X-Rounds: Refractive Cataract Surgery to the Max, a non-CME symposium, is an annual highlight hosted by Eric Donnenfeld, MD, with the “superheroes” of ophthalmology, who gave quick hit presentations to answer various questions that were then voted on by the audience.
Symposium offers refractive high impact pearls
Get H.I.P. (High Impact Pearls) – Refractive, part of a suite of similarly themed symposia taking place at the ASCRS Annual Meeting, offered pearls in rapid-fire video cases on the topic of refractive surgery. The session was broken into three categories with several video presentations in each category.
ASCRS Foundation symposium highlights ophthalmic care strategies during humanitarian crises
Susan MacDonald, MD, ASCRS Foundation Chair, introduced the ASCRS Foundation’s symposium, thanking Johnson & Johnson Vision for supporting it. The symposium highlighted ophthalmic care strategies during humanitarian crises, and it addressed challenges and how to ensure patient and physician safety.
Dr. MacDonald also announced the winner of this year’s Operation Sight Volunteer of the Year Award, Omar Shakir, MD. The Volunteer of the Year Award was sponsored by Sight Sciences.

‘Quicksand Chronicles: Pro Moves’
Nicole Fram, MD, and Elizabeth Yeu, MD, led the Ophthalmology Quicksand Chronicles symposium on Saturday afternoon, titled “Quicksand Chronicles: Pro Moves.”
Sumit “Sam” Garg, MD, Nandini Venkateswaran, MD, and Arsham Sheybani, MD, served as presenters in the session. They shared cases, and panelists had the opportunity to pause the presenters at any time to dissect the case.
Upcoming: Sunday at the Annual Meeting
Don’t miss Sunday’s ASCRS Main Stage. The Richard L. Lindstrom, MD, Lecture will be given by Reza Dana, MD. Additionally, the ASCRS Government Relations session will be on the Main Stage this year, featuring William Flanary, MD (aka Dr. Glaucomflecken). In his own unique style, Dr. Glaucomflecken will talk about the challenges facing the American healthcare system, the importance of advocacy, and how physicians can advocate for themselves and their patients. The ASCRS Film Festival will also take place Sunday evening on the ASCRS Main Stage. Be sure to attend and see who takes home this year’s top prize!
