by Denise Monasterio ASCRS Marketing and Communications Manager

The 2019 ASCRS•ASOA Annual Meeting—the largest U.S. meeting dedicated to the needs of anterior segment surgeons, practice management staff, and ophthalmic technicians and nurses—will be held May 3–7, 2019, at the San Diego Convention Center.
The meeting offers specialized education for every member of an ophthalmic practice, as well as cross-functional learning opportunities where practice teams can learn side-by-side with one another.

ASCRS Program

This year, ASCRS has added some new and exciting programming:
• ASCRS Roundtables—Meet the Experts will be held on May 4 from 8:30–9:30 a.m. ASCRS Roundtables offer an opportunity for attendees to meet with experts in an informal setting to examine issues as they relate to cataract surgery, IOLs, refractive surgery, cornea and glaucoma. Space is limited, so sign up early.
• ASCRS’ The Voice of Ophthalmology is back for a second season, again featured as Part 2 of the ASCRS Sunday Summit General Session, which will be held on May 4 from 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. This year, ASCRS is holding an open audition process and potential contestants are invited to submit audition videos. Full details are available online at voice.ascrs.org.
• The ASCRS Program is also featuring an expanded ASCRS Essentials Track, including refractive cataract, retina for anterior segment surgeons, IOL calculations and more; a “Shark Tank”-like symposium called “The Winning Pitch”; several special interest symposia (government relations, female leaders in ophthalmology, humanitarian efforts); and more Skills Transfer labs.

ASCRS Subspecialty Day

On May 3, attendees will have the opportunity to enhance their meeting experience by attending the ASCRS Subspecialty Day program. ASCRS Refractive Day, ASCRS Glaucoma Day, and Cornea Day will highlight the most important topics in cornea and lens-based refractive surgery, glaucoma management and surgery, cornea and cataract surgery, presented by world-renowned experts.
ASCRS Refractive Day, sponsored by the ASCRS Refractive Clinical Committee, provides a comprehensive overview of all the advances in refractive surgery, with innovative techniques and new surgical technologies that will help to improve outcomes.
ASCRS Glaucoma Day, sponsored by the ASCRS Glaucoma Clinical Committee, provides cutting-edge guidance for expanding glaucoma treatment options and improving patient outcomes. Acclaimed speakers, real-world case studies, debates, videos, and the latest surgical techniques and clinical advances make it the premier glaucoma event.
Cornea Day, sponsored by the ASCRS Cornea Clinical Committee and the Cornea Society, is a premier 1-day interactive program on cornea and cataract surgery. Pertinent topics are covered via panel discussions, case studies, debates, and surgical video reviews showcasing the latest innovations and techniques.

Exhibit Hall and Special Events

The world-class Exhibit Hall will once again feature more than 300 industry exhibitors representing a variety of products and services.
New in 2019, the ASCRS•ASOA Welcome Party will be held in the Exhibit Hall to facilitate access to the exhibitors and their products and services. The party will be held on May 4 from 4:30–6:00 p.m. There will be music, complimentary hors d’oeuvres, and refreshments to enjoy while networking with the exhibitors in a relaxed environment.
For the third year ASCRS will have the Industry Spotlight Theater in the Exhibit Hall. The Industry Spotlight Theater offers a series of product-focused corporate educational sessions (non-CME). These sessions will provide attendees with overviews and comparisons across several different ophthalmic product categories.
In 2019, ASCRS will celebrate the 37th anniversary of the ASCRS Film Festival Awards. Established in 1982, the Film Festival Awards honor the best filmmakers in ophthalmology.

ASOA Program

ASOA will offer various educational sessions and specialty programs, many specifically geared toward physicians. Courses related to how to manage mergers and acquisitions, associated private equity considerations, succession planning, growth strategies, coding in a changing regulatory environment, and others will provide essential knowledge with practical applications to help a practice flourish.
